Occupational Recognition update

There are only 2 ways to become Trade qualified in this State. One is through successful completion of an Apprenticeship and the other is through the Occupational Recognition process.

Do you have the skills to be recognised as a Cook, Bread Baker or Pastry Cook?

Been in the industry for at least 4 years full time?

If your answers are yes then you may be eligible to apply for Occupational Recognition as a Cook or Baker.

Formerly known as Cooks and Bakers Trade Recognition, the application process changed effective July 2021From that date the South Australian Skills Commission (the Commission) has been tasked with establishing Occupational Recognition Services for the State.  During 2025 we had a contract with the Skills Commission to establish the new ORS process for Cooks.

From January 2026 we are no longer tasked with this process.  If you would like to apply for Occupational Recognition please email the South Australian Skills Commission via  ors@sa.gov.au . The Commission will contact you with a link to the online application forms, evidence requirements to be included with your online application, etc.
